Cochlear Implant Attorney On A Roll

I ran across an article in the Contra Costa Times last night about Sheri Byrne-Haber, a cochlear implant attorney. In 2004, Bryne-Haber launched an assault on insurance companies challenging their denials of a cochlear implant surgery. Since that time, the East Palo Alto-based attorney has won every one of the 325 cochlear implant cases she has litigated (wow!). Apparently, she has hundreds more under way.

Byrne-Haber is director of the insurance-advocacy program for the Let Them Hear Foundation in East Palo Alto. She told that Times that “When we win, all we win are medical services” (not damages). Patients and hearing-impaired individuals are represented by her legal team at no charge. Many of her clients are children.

I just cannot imagine having to deal with something like this on top of everything else that comes with hearing loss and cochlear implantation. You can read the entire story on the Contra Costa Times web site.
